Highlights from Art for After Hours 3D 4D Chalk/Street/Murals in 2015

Greetings from Wendy and I here at Art for After Hours!  

This has been another banner year for the company and so excited about what 2016 has in store!  

We're pleased to share some of the highlights from our projects and travels as well as a taste of 2016 3D/4D too...

 

 

Winter found Art for After Hours creating two 3D immersive designs for the inaugural #DubaiCanvas exhibition festival in Dubai, UAE for the Dubai Media Office.  We were among a select group of the world's elite 3D street painting artists asked to create works for the festival.  'Supercars' (above) celebrated the weekend parade of super luxury vehicles making their way down the 'Walk' at Jumeriah Beach - a sight to see!

Our second piece at #DubaiCanvas was a taste of the old updated for a popular audience.  'Magic Carpet Ride' allowed us to 'fly' in the style of the 'Arabian Nights'...  We enjoyed the creation of the art, and the opportunity to meet so many interesting and friendly people...

In the spring, we were busy working on projects that inspired and allowed us to share some of the fundamentals in the street painting art form. For the last two years, Art for After Hours has been working with the Furman University Art Department to provide workshops and to allow the students to try their hand at the street painting art form for the first time.

In June, we brought the 3D street painting art form to the Junebug Festival in Metuchen, NJ and flew high on the Junebug over the tri-state area!

As the summer got hot, so did our regional project load with a favorite being our 3D piece in Elmira, NY.  Revisiting a 1970's era favorite pastime - solving the Rubiks Cube...

The 3D was great!  Solving the cube -  still working on that... ;)

Back to Europe in August doing our take on 'gardening' at the Wilhelmshaven Street Art Festival in Wilhelmshaven, Germany...

Just remember, That's not a Daisy... ;D

Fall became very busy very fast with a series of Festival appearances, Murals in Switzerland, and more...

'Spaghetti' 3D exhibition piece in Baltimore, MD for the Italian Restaurant Association as part of the Little Italy Baltimore Madonnari Arts Festival...

 A stop in Marietta, GA as a participant in the Chalktoberfest showing our patriotism - Great, friendly people and art!

Back to Europe to design and paint an indoor 3D illusionary mural for a private luxury residential property in Geneva, Switzerland...  The art measured over 22 feet high from base of stairs to underside of rafter.

And straight back to the USA for a 3D exhibition work at the Sarasota Venice Festival for a warm up to the Holidays...

Our 'Home Sweet (Gingerbread) Home' - an immersive 3D piece which allows our viewers to become a part of the art beyond being a spectator alone..

We are very excited about 2016 especially in terms of the availability of technology to become part of the 3D street art scene as we have advocated for many years...

Shawn McCann Awarded 'Our Town' Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts

Hi Everyone,

Its always good to hear when someone that you you work with has been presented with a unique opportunity and when one of our artists at Art for After Hours has acheived such an opportunity, our team is very happy to share the news.

Shawn McCann, a 3D chalk artist who works on projects with the Art for After Hours team has just been awarded an 'Our Town' Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

 

Shawn says that he is honored to a part of this grant and that he looks forward to heading back to his hometown of Wahpeton, ND to create some art.  The Business of Street Painting Art and the sites of Innovative Street Painting Group will be following Shawn's progress on his exciting opportunity.

'Think Growth' New 3D street painting from Shawn McCann and Art for After Hours in Scottsdale, AZ, May 2011

On May 2nd and 3rd, Art for After Hours went out to sunny Scottsdale, AZ to 'think growth' for a conference with one of our clients.

Using a bit of a surrealist play with a business theme, 3D street painting artist Shawn McCann worked with the client to generate a conceptual mix of fine art and fun street painting which wowed the attendees from start to finish.

 

I was onsite to interact with the conference attendees to present the history of our art form and to show everyone how to view the art using their devices such as smartphones, tablets, and cameras.

 
Shawn's design measured approximately 10' x 16' and took two full days to complete.  3D street painting artist Shawn McCann is pictured at left and I (Anthony Cappetto) as Art for After Hours principal, am at the right.

AR with 3D chalk art entertainment - Its a matter of application...

 As our readers of The Business of Street Painting Art know, we are very excited about our 3D street painting (chalk) art and we are always thinkiing about what we can do next to conceptually top off what we did before.

Augmented Reality (AR) has caught our attention and we are planning to bring it into as many of our 2011 projects as possible. Of course, AR needs to have the right environment within the traditional chalk art project to bring the biggest splash for the viewers and be worthwhile to the client/sponsor as well.

These projects are going to be intended for the most visionary and conceptually forward and Art for After Hours and Innovative Street Painting Group are positioned for this and completely ready to craft a unique artistic/technology blended experience for our clients. 

As much as we are fans of newer developments such as AR, Mixed Reality and other concepts that in our minds can be seen as really cool or trendy, it is just as important to realize what we also enjoy doing as artists and creative individuals - sharing the love and passion for our art with the next generation of inquisitive and open young minds seeing our street painting (chalk) art for thr very first time.  I am at left, showing my chalks to these young children attending a Art for After Hours project designed by internationally recognized street painting artist Rod Tryon.  The value of inspiring a future artist is very special and postive.

The traditional 3D work is detailed and requires a mental and physical level of dedication and execution for success of the artwork.  The same will apply to the constructive applaication of AR as a tool, an enhancement to the illusionary effects already in place with our street paintings.

The 'Blending' of Art and Technology in 3D street painting...

Every time around this year there is always talk about the latest and greatest technology or development that will captivate the public - or not.

Whether the talk comes from virtual spaces like Second Life, other competing sims, or 3D anything (video, graphics, TVs) there are ups and downs, but ultimately the best results will come together one hopes. In our case, we are not only proponents of street painting art, a traditional art form with a history going back to the Renaissance era, but creators and supporters of the 3D street (chalk) art that you may have seen at an event, tradeshow, exhibition, or festival somewhere in the world.  We are also strong proponents of respecting the tradition of street painting while looking to incorporate new tools and ways of looking at the future.  Art always evolves, ideas to reach the public through the message of art and the times that surround it evolve too.

3D Street painting (chalk) art is an art form created with your hands, designed in your mind, and executed with experience that comes from understanding the art desired and the mechanics of how to take a 2D creation and transform it to be believable as a three dimensional image to your viewers.

Here we have two 3D street painting artists Shawn McCann (left) and Michael Macaulay (right) working on a recent 3D street painting completed last October.  The team work that we had allowed us to create a Halloween themed street painting using traditional methods with the said mechanics to create a new illusion using traditional methods.

The Business of Street Painting Outlook for 2011

Hello to our readers following the business of the street painting (chalk) art form.  I am as always sharing some of my thoughts on the year in street painting as well as where as an artist and business person believe where street painting is heading in 2011.

 

2010 showed the growth of 3D street painting beyond simple designs that were fun in the past but the bar has been raised by the advertising, public relations, marketing agencies worldwide.  The smaller scaled designs while still popular are being supplanted by larger, ambitious street paintings of ever increasing complexity and we do not see the evolution of 3D street painting art to end anytime soon.

Our Art for After Hours business sent a team to Sarasota, Florida to make our first foray into the larger arena of 3D street paintings:

 
The 'Skullduggery' 3D anamorphic street painting took our team of three four days and a lot of chalk to complete at a size of 20 by 40 feet.  The art can get larger and more complex with advance planning and coordination. 

Art for After Hours brought 3D street painting across the USA and Japan, while our other company, Innovative Street Painting Group has been busy exploring developing applications in hybrid, online, and virtual events bringing together or 'blending' the live 3D street painting done with chalk with exciting concepts of technology workable with digital devices to bring the beauty of the art with a client's message to viewers onsite and around the world at the same time.

Our (street painting art) thoughts on 'Artists Fleeing the City' a post on Crains' New York Business...

Yesterday we came upon a blog post from Miriam Kreinin Souccar from Crains New York Business presenting the sad state of affairs for artists and creative people struggling and even leaving New York City to find artistic career opportunities elsewhere.  It hit home with us...

 

We completely emphasize with these creative people who find that New York City through ever increasing rents, decreasing opportunities for work, etc., feel the dream of making it in New York is just that... a dream - and not a reality.  This is sad, deplorable, and reversible!

From our standpoint with Art for After Hours as a street painting art services company providing professional quality 3D street painting (chalk) art since 2001 for corporate clients and public exhibitions across the USA, in Dubai, and Japan - we have the options of bringing our art form to locations other than New York City.  However, we get many inquiries from potential clients whom are interested in public 3D street painting events and are thwarted by local regulations barring the application of chalk on any street or surface in the five boroughs of New York City.

Street Painting is a highly respected and sought after art form with a four hundred plus year history starting in Italy during the Renaissance and recently spreading through the world rapidly due to the internet, user generated video, and social media.  There are those in New York City who lump street painting into the same category as illicit graffiti, and 'quality of life' type issues such as defacement of property, nuisances, etc.  As professional 3D street painting artists and those who work only when a permit is issued, (only with professional clients, such as public relations, advertising, marketing, media agencies), we feel that NYC is missing the boat on the positive opportunities and urban benefit that our specific art form and the vibrancy of the full artistic community of New York City brings to our world class city.

The beauty of street painting art allows fine art to be created in front of the eyes of the general public who may not feel comfortable going into the Met, Guggenheim, MOMA, or galleries in Chelsea or DUMBO, but might wish to watch the creation of beautiful art on the asphalt on Museum Mile, or in the most beautiful areas of Central Park - beginning a revived tradition of culture embracing all New Yorkers.

The street paintings can be in the realm of the fantastic and experimental running over 100 feet long and the width of a road or they can be meticulous reproductions of famous artworks of history that are well known to the general public such as the Mona Lisa, The Pieta, or classics throughout the ages following the Renaissance period.  A street painting art festival can bring in revenue, attract creativity and show New York that all of our artist - street painters or not have a positive place in our city and deserve to grow and thrive here. 

Artists do not really differ from those who come to New York City for business, finance, entertainment, professions, or any other positive endeavors.  All come to New York City with the dream of making it big or making it well in what any of us wish to do.  What artists do is bring creativity and vision, pushing the boundaries of invention, precedence, and concepts to advance human initiative and achievements.  Art for After Hours is for this without question.  Let's hope and plan for a New York City that shows all artists that they are truly welcome here to live and work affordably even if they do not have work in a high museum or ultra trendy gallery.

Happy Halloween Everybody!

Many across the USA trick or treated  or went to a Halloween party which is great, we love Halloween, but our team from Art for After Hours - Michael Macaulay from Rhode Island and Shawn McCann from Minnesota got together to create a exceptionally bright, intense Halloween 3D street painting in the exhibition area of the Sarasota Chalk Festival in Sarasota, Fl.  We got an opportunity to provide the tricks with the art and receive the treats of excited crowds enjoying the art (our own and that of 200+ terrific street painting artists) and the festival that was so nice to us and made us feel so very welcome.
