As 2012 comes to a close, I am looking back to a uniquely successful year with Art for After Hours with 3D chalk art work mingling with animated augmented reality and use of figurative animation as a dynamic in bringing traditional chalk art and emerging technologies together for the entertainment of millions, yes millions of viewers worldwide.
I speak of the numbers above of course as an extention to the thousands viewing our art live onsite, thanks to social media worldwide whether, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, or their counterparts in the Pacific Rim or other regional locations.

The beauty of mingling or blending physical and virtual activities in projects comes from the creation of the art itself from traditional and emerging sources (chalk art, animation designs, AR) and through connecting to physical and virtual audiences making your message known with more scalability than ever before in programs.
Earlier in the year, I was onsite at an event in Mumbai, India at IIT Bombay in which I mingled animated AR in the formof the IIT robot mascot for thousands of university students over the course of the event, (below):
Here I was (Fourth from left), with a group of IIT Bombay students at the Techfest 2012 in which we 'chased' the IIT Bombay robot mascot (flying away in blue, courtesy of Daqri). The ways to present the mingling of the art/technology are nacsent and the the expansion and sophistication of applying AR and animation are just beginning. Art for After Hours is working with these vendors and always seeking to develop relationships with emerging technology companies, start-ups and established who are seriously interested in seeing how far mingling 3D chalk art in hybrid events and concepts can go.
Indeed, thousand of students came through the exhibition area taking pictures and viewing the AR effect through my setup in front of the physical artwork.
And yes, at one point, the art was bright...

Especially with the tasty Southern cooking in Greenville!

Michael Macaulay and I were interviewed on 'Mass Appeal', a local program at the NBC affiliate WWLP in Springfield, MA. We were happy to share our excitement about our recent Art for After Hours 3D street painting, an interpretation of the Currier & Ives classic lithograph 'Through to the Pacific' (1870) which we created for the attendees of the Original Western Massachusetts Home and Garden Show, March 24th through March 27th, 2011.

At a size of 15 feet deep by 20 feet wide, our finished 3D street painting art took 3-1/2 days for us to do or about 70 hours worth of work between us. Notice how the train appears to levitate outside the finished frame and sill on its path to the Pacific.

Yes, I am a strong proponent of the blending of art and technology, especially in my art form of 3D street painting (chalk) art. I find it a touch point between a traditional art form with a multi century history to so many emerging concepts bringing an ever expanding and deepening connection to society.
Although in the image (left) of me in Osaka last September doesn't show the technology application clearly (video, social networking, blogging), the next steps with emerging technologies and spaces are upon us.
Art for After Hours and Innovative Street Painting Group are early adopters of the combination (blending) of street painting (chalk) art with technology going back several years when Twitter was not on the public's radar and when blogging was just beginning to reach the public's reach.
We created a small, experimental space in Second Life to show that street painting can be present virtually as well as physically with the belief that this work of the street can only grow and develop in sophistication in this and new virtual spaces to reach viewers and grow even more artists to street paint themselves with or without a computer connection.
In the SL space, we presented previous examples of our work to display to SL residents, even connections to our street painting art video channel, streetpainting.tv and our blogs 'Blog Now on streetpainting.tv and this blog as well.
