Greetings from the Cretaceous Period from Art for After Hours!

One of the latest immersive 3D street art installations of ours is an inspiration from the classic science fiction short story by Ray Bradbury in which I, as a time traveler from a not so distant future goes back through time to the Cretaceous Period and inavertently steps off the light path to crush a butterfly, changing the entire course of history for my return.

 

 

 

'A Sound of Thunder...' (2014) 3D Designer and lead artist Anthony Cappetto, with thanks to the Art for After Hours 3D Team of Ron Hawkins, Nancy Garza, and Wendy Stum.  Immersive combined panels of 16 feet wide by 30 feet deep on ground with vertical panel of 16 feet wide by 8 feet high completed in a week's time.

Conceptual in nature, Cappetto researched Cretaceous period flora and fauna, including the Dilophosaurus wetherilli (1954) aka the dino that ate the tech thief in the jeep in the scene from 'Jurassic Park'...

Additionally and as a critical conceptual point- in the foreground, there is a silver/red funnel with the scientically accepted (and debated) equation for time travel energy displacement imagined with the light bridge entering from the sky on the vertical panel and reaching to the front of the artwork on the ground in which I present below: 

Understandably, readers, I take their word for it and extrapolate for concept and lots of artistic license... ;D

A preliminary colored pencil study I used for initial concepts, of course the final work is always more vibrant live!

The Art for After Hours 3D chalk art team of Anthony Cappetto, Shawn McCann, and Wendy Stum are going to return to the Sarasota Chalk Festival for our third straight year to bring our 3D chalk art to the thousands of visitors to the foremost chalk art festival in the USA with a host of artists from throughout the world.

The artwork I have designed for our team, 'High Wire' will be 15 by 30 feet in size and will need to work fast and well for the 'test' of our high wire line by no other than the one and only Nik Wallenda himself!

3D Pavement Art in Duluth, GA by Anthony Cappetto of Art for After Hours - May 2011

Recently, I (Anthony Cappetto)was able to share my 3D pavement art with the visitors to the Barefoot in the Park Arts Festival in Duluth, GA, from May 6th through May 8th, 2011.

This large scale 3D street painting measured approximately 16' by 30' in size and took me about 30 hours to complete.

The titled artwork 'Barefoot in the Park' shows beautiful scenery below with a majestic waterfall on the left side of the piece, a rock wall in the distance that I am upon, and a colorful cliff wall at the right.

I enjoy what I am able to do and to share my passion for 3D street painting (pavement) art with everyone.

3D Chalk Artists Michael Macaulay and Anthony Cappetto at the Original Western Mass Home & Garden Show 2011

 
I am letting our readers here at the Business of Street Painting Art  know about an upcoming 3D street painting event that will be featuring 3D street painting artists Michael Macaulay and I (Anthony Cappetto) at the Original Western Mass Home and Garden Show in Springfield, MA from March 24th through March 27th, 2011.

Mike and I will be doing our interpretation of the famous 'Through to the Pacific' , a hand-colored lithograph by Currier & Ives that is currently on display in "The Legacy of Currier & Ives: Shaping the American Spirit" at the Michele & Donald D'Amour Museum of Fine Arts, part of the Springfield Museums from February 1st through May 1st, 2011.

Beginning in 1835, Currier & Ives produced prints which celbrated the American experience, and Mike and I are pleaed and honored to be able to bring the detail and attention of Art for After Hours to an important piece of American history.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained: art/technology blend mix using street painting (chalk) art

Yes, I am a strong proponent of the blending of art and technology, especially in my art form of 3D street painting (chalk) art.  I find it a touch point between a traditional art form with a multi century history to so many emerging concepts bringing an ever expanding and deepening connection to society.

Although in the image (left) of me in Osaka last September doesn't show the technology application clearly (video, social networking, blogging), the next steps with emerging technologies and spaces are upon us.

Art for After Hours and Innovative Street Painting Group are early adopters of the combination (blending) of street painting (chalk) art with technology going back several years when Twitter was not on the public's radar and when blogging was just beginning to reach the public's reach.

We created a small, experimental space in Second Life to show that street painting can be present virtually as well as physically with the belief that this work of the street can only grow and develop in sophistication in this and new virtual spaces to reach viewers and grow even more artists to street paint themselves with or without a computer connection.

 In the SL space, we presented previous examples of our work to display to SL residents, even connections to our street painting art video channel, streetpainting.tv and our blogs 'Blog Now on streetpainting.tv and this blog as well.

AR with 3D chalk art entertainment - Its a matter of application...

 As our readers of The Business of Street Painting Art know, we are very excited about our 3D street painting (chalk) art and we are always thinkiing about what we can do next to conceptually top off what we did before.

Augmented Reality (AR) has caught our attention and we are planning to bring it into as many of our 2011 projects as possible. Of course, AR needs to have the right environment within the traditional chalk art project to bring the biggest splash for the viewers and be worthwhile to the client/sponsor as well.

These projects are going to be intended for the most visionary and conceptually forward and Art for After Hours and Innovative Street Painting Group are positioned for this and completely ready to craft a unique artistic/technology blended experience for our clients. 

As much as we are fans of newer developments such as AR, Mixed Reality and other concepts that in our minds can be seen as really cool or trendy, it is just as important to realize what we also enjoy doing as artists and creative individuals - sharing the love and passion for our art with the next generation of inquisitive and open young minds seeing our street painting (chalk) art for thr very first time.  I am at left, showing my chalks to these young children attending a Art for After Hours project designed by internationally recognized street painting artist Rod Tryon.  The value of inspiring a future artist is very special and postive.

The traditional 3D work is detailed and requires a mental and physical level of dedication and execution for success of the artwork.  The same will apply to the constructive applaication of AR as a tool, an enhancement to the illusionary effects already in place with our street paintings.

The 'Blending' of Art and Technology in 3D street painting...

Every time around this year there is always talk about the latest and greatest technology or development that will captivate the public - or not.

Whether the talk comes from virtual spaces like Second Life, other competing sims, or 3D anything (video, graphics, TVs) there are ups and downs, but ultimately the best results will come together one hopes. In our case, we are not only proponents of street painting art, a traditional art form with a history going back to the Renaissance era, but creators and supporters of the 3D street (chalk) art that you may have seen at an event, tradeshow, exhibition, or festival somewhere in the world.  We are also strong proponents of respecting the tradition of street painting while looking to incorporate new tools and ways of looking at the future.  Art always evolves, ideas to reach the public through the message of art and the times that surround it evolve too.

3D Street painting (chalk) art is an art form created with your hands, designed in your mind, and executed with experience that comes from understanding the art desired and the mechanics of how to take a 2D creation and transform it to be believable as a three dimensional image to your viewers.

Here we have two 3D street painting artists Shawn McCann (left) and Michael Macaulay (right) working on a recent 3D street painting completed last October.  The team work that we had allowed us to create a Halloween themed street painting using traditional methods with the said mechanics to create a new illusion using traditional methods.
